Captain Killer
Captain Killer, the spirited skipper of Hinatea, is a true fishing enthusiast and seasoned mariner based in Ma’alaea Harbor, Maui. He received his Captain’s license at 16 years of age. With a nickname that reflects his larger-than-life personality and passion for the sport, he has become a beloved figure among both locals and visitors seeking unforgettable fishing experiences.
Growing up near the ocean, Captain Killer developed a deep connection to the sea from an early age. His extensive knowledge of Hawaiian waters and local fishing techniques, combined with years of experience, make him an expert in finding the best spots for a successful catch. Whether it’s targeting mahi-mahi, tuna, or marlin, he thrives on sharing his skills and love for fishing with his guests.
Beyond his fishing prowess, Captain Killer is known for his infectious enthusiasm and friendly demeanor. He has a knack for creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere on board, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and engaged. With his keen sense of adventure and a genuine love for the ocean, he not only teaches guests about fishing but also fosters a deeper appreciation for Maui’s stunning marine environment.
First Mate, Adam
Adam is the first mate aboard Hinatea, where his love for the ocean and passion for fishing shine through in every charter. Operating out of Ma’alaea Harbor, he plays a vital role in ensuring that guests have a memorable and enjoyable experience on the water.
Born and raised on Maui, Adam has a deep connection to Maui’s ocean, as well as its history, and is well-known for his expertise and enthusiasm.
Known for his friendly demeanor and infectious enthusiasm, Adam excels at creating a welcoming atmosphere on board. He takes pride in assisting Captain Killer and ensuring that every detail of the charter runs smoothly, from preparing equipment to offering guidance on fishing techniques. His dedication to customer service and commitment to safety make him a reliable presence for both seasoned anglers and newcomers alike.
Kurt and Patti, Owners
Kurt and Patti are the dynamic duo behind the Hinatea I, II, and III. Their love of the Maui waters began 16 years ago, when they were introduced to Killer and Adam through mutual friends. After spending time fishing and sailing with them, they noticed Hinatea I was being sold by local legend Doug Barna. It was anchored at Lahaina Harbor. Doug Barna had one wish: sell the boat to someone that would keep his memory alive by continuing to charter the boat and keep it fishing in Maui waters.
Hinatea II came along a couple years later—larger and newer, which could accommodate more fishermen. Unfortunately, it was lost in the horrific Lahaina fire in 2023. They were fortunate to acquire Hinatea III in 2024, and in the spirit of Maui were able to secure a spot at Ma‘alaea Harbor until Lahaina is rebuilt.
A portion of the proceeds from 2023 and 2024 were donated to the people of Maui, who lost their homes in the fire and were displaced. Together, with their amazing crew, they hope to provide you with unforgettable fishing adventures in the stunning waters of Maui.
